This is the first report of the 2024 season. Ten of 35 sites reported this week. European corn borer (ECB)-E was caught at four of the reporting sites and ECB-Z was caught at 3 sites. Three sites reported CEW catches this week. No other target moths were caught.
The first spring flight of ECB-E moths is expected when accumulated growing degree days reach 374 (modified base 50). Degree day accumulation for ECB-E would put their development between first eggs and peak spring flight depending on location (see table below). If you have corn in or approaching the tassel emergence stage during the first generation flight click the “Managing ECB in plastic, row cover, or transplanted sweet corn” link to the right under “Pages” for management information.
