Trap catches of all our target insects are remarkably low this week. Western bean cutworm catches are on the rise, but gradually so far, and the peak flight should be at least a couple of weeks away.
Continue to scout tassel emergence stage fields for larvae in the emerging tassel. Look for chewing damage and frass. Larvae from the first generation flight are getting larger, with more apparent damage. The treatment threshold at tassel emergence is 15% infested plants. Good control at the tassel emergence stage combined with low trap catches means that tassel emergence applications may be all that are needed in some fields that are harvested before the next flight starts.
