WNY Sweet Corn Trap Network Report 9.27.11

This will be the last weekly report of the season.  Big thanks to all my collaborators on the trap network.

With only seven locations where traps are still up this week, European corn borer numbers remain low.  Corn earworm were generally down from last week, but numbers remain high at a couple of locations.  Those of you who will be harvesting until frost may want to assume that corn earworm flights will continue.  With so few sweet corn fields remaining, moths will lay eggs even in brown silk stage fields, as well as peppers and tomatoes.  Fall armyworm were caught at four of the 6 locations with traps, so they also remain a threat.  Lower temperatures forecast for later in the week will slow the development of both insects.
